Internship Position at Bloomington Economic Development Council (EDC)

The EDC has an open position for an intern to assist us in our research. The research  would be centered around the “picking” of  companies the EDC wants to target for attraction to our area. Here is what we are specifically looking for in an intern:

  • 15-20 hours a week
  • Ability to conduct research independently
  • Creative in their ability to do research. Must not rely on us to direct them to sources, etc.
  • Develop a portfolio of 15 to 20 companies in each of five sectors that are poised for growth and have the ability to expand. EDC staff and the Intern will determine what the profile of those companies are and how we determine which are ideal for the BN area.
  • Make a presentation to staff and the Major Sector Committee on the companies chosen.

We are willing to compensate the intern, and will consider a full school year internship including summer.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree students graduating in December 2012 or later and if possible undergraduate work in: Finance, Mathematics, Economics, and/or Statistics. Minimum 3.5 GPA, SAS programming experience essential. Additional training in research and design, as well as statistics is a huge plus. Additional work experience in banking and/or projects that involve components of banking are also a plus. Candidates with this additional training/experience would be selected first. Experience leading efforts and teams (work, sports etc.), volunteer activities also important.
  • Skills required/preferred for the position: Required: MS Excel, PowerPoint Preferred: SAS, experience with web publishing tools

WHAT ARE THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION?

  • Various duties depending on department
  • Completes training on workstations and job/department specific applications
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively analyze and execute professional level work in the assigned department
  • Work on special projects as assigned by the supervisor
  • Demonstrates an understanding of State Farm policies and procedures

SAMPLE PROJECTS

  • Examining legislation affecting credit cards and its impact to Student credit cards.
  • Studying mobile banking and how to market bank products to a Young Adult market.
  • Project work may also entail analysis of interest rates and deposit pricing, pricing modeling, and credit risk analysis.

  • State Farm Bank provides banking products and financial services for State Farm customers. The Bank works closely with State Farm Agents to assist them in the delivery and support of these products and services. The Bank also works with other internal departments such as Marketing and Agency to accomplish their goals. Departments are staffed with various levels of management, analytical and support level personnel.

Financial Analyst II

1st Farm Credit Services has an immediate opening at
its Corporate Headquarters, located in Normal, IL, for a
Financial Analyst II.

The Financial Analyst II serves as the primary resource
for profitability analysis and is responsible for
developing and implementing standard processes for
creating reports, maintaining data, reporting to
management, and integrating data into user
applications for reporting purposes.

Other key responsibilities include producing forecasting models
and developing, compiling, monitoring and
documenting the annual budget and the five year
business planning forecast, including sensitivity analysis
and a quarterly reforecast.

This individual also serves as a primary reporting
contact within the Association company, creating
reports and ad hoc queries utilizing a variety of
programs, including Crystal, Hyperion, MS Access and
MS Reporting Services. Advanced Excel skills are a
necessity.

Minimum requirements for this position include a
bachelor s degree in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics
or the equivalent with 3-5 years of related experience.
